Anubis had many roles in Egyptian society. The first of them was that he was the guardian of cemeteries. A second, and probably the most important role he played was embalming Osiris after he was killed by Seth, god of evil, and that's how he became to be the god of mummification. the third and final role that Anubis played was that he protected the mummies in his or her tomb. That is why most Egyptian tombs have a box with Anubis on them in their tomb.
